Family Law sets the rules which govern the ongoing responsibilities of family members to each other, both at the time families are formed and after relationships dissolve. The West Virginia Legislature has recently adopted a new family law bill. The bill has been signed by the Governor. It will become effective shortly

The new law is set forth on this site. Click here to see the table of contents. As members of the bar have an opportunity to study that law, this site will present comments on it.

This Web Site is prepared by concerned lawyers after a meeting of the Monongalia Bar Association. It is an effort to promote careful consideration of the issues raised in the proposed bill and the needs of West Virginia citizens. It was most recently updated on June 13, 1999.
